Steel City Shredding

Steel City Shredding: Celebrating 97 Years

When you’ve been around for nearly a century, you become more than just a business—you become part of the fabric of your city. Founded in 1928 as Iron City Industrial Cleaning Corporation, our roots run deep in Pittsburgh. What began as a company who cleaned the gloves that protected the hands of steelworkers has evolved into protecting what’s just as important today—your data.

To put 1928 into perspective, it was the year the world first saw Steamboat Willie, the cartoon that introduced Mickey Mouse. It was the year sliced bread hit the shelves (yes, the actual “best thing since sliced bread” happened that year). Amelia Earhart became the first woman to fly across the Atlantic, Notre Dame’s 23-year football streak ended at the hands of Carnegie Tech, and two Pittsburgh legends, Andy Warhol and Fred Rogers, were born. Meanwhile, right here in Pittsburgh, we started our own story built on trust, service, and community.

Much has changed since then—people no longer line up for bread at the corner bakery, they order it on their phones. The steel mills that powered Pittsburgh have given way to tech companies and medical innovation. But what hasn’t changed is our commitment to this city.

For 97 years, we’ve been keeping Pittsburgh safe—whether it was clean gloves for steelworkers in the 1920s or secure document shredding for businesses today.

As we look toward 100 years, one thing is clear: Steel City Shredding isn’t just in Pittsburgh, we’re part of Pittsburgh.
